For World TB Day on March 24, 2011 the Hospital General de Occidente organized a two day program, including a workshop and symposium open to community members, medical doctors, nurses, students and other interested parties. A portion of the workshop that was limited to laboratory workers reviewed and practiced TB diagnostic techniques. At the symposium, speakers presented on the epidemiology of TB, TB/HIV co-infection, treatment and TB drug research.
