TB Alliance CEO at Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting

The Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting convenes a diverse group of approximately 1,000 world leaders to examine today's most pressing global challenges and transform that awareness into tangible commitments to action. Participants include current and former heads of state, top business executives, preeminent scholars, and representatives of key non-governmental organizations working together for a common cause.

During the 2007 meeting, held in New York City from September 26 - 28, TB Alliance CEO and President, Maria C. Freire, Ph.D. participated in a working session entitled "Overcoming Drug Resistance." This session examined the threats presented by drug-resistant strains of tuberculosis, malaria, and HIV/AIDS, and the increasing challenge of conquering these deadly diseases. The session highlighted strategies for deploying effective drugs and interventions, developing second-line drugs, and improving global surveillance systems.
