The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria announced the awards of its first grants in an unprecedented effort to improve the global fight against all three diseases. On April 26, the Fund allocated US $54 million specifically to TB programmes.
"While these funds will go a long way in the short term, we still need to make strategic investments in developing improved, faster acting treatments," said TB Alliance CEO Dr. Maria C. Freire. "New medicines for TB will enable us to better leverage today's contributions from the Global Fund for years to come."
