The 4th World TB Congress took place in Washington, D.C. (June 3-5, 2002). The TB Alliance was one of the 13 cosponsors for this event, specifically promoting “TB Research for Control.”
In a keynote address, U.S. Rep. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) emphasized the "need for both shorter and simpler regimens for standard TB and better, less toxic regimens for treating MDR-TB." He called the TB Alliance "an excellent step to addressing this part of the puzzle."
The TB Alliance provided travel support for seven researchers from high-endemic countries: China, Moldova, the Philippines, South Africa, Peru, Uganda, and Brazil.
